WICHITA FALLS, TX (RNN Texoma) - Staff and visitors at the Wichita Falls Public Library took part in International Talk Like a Pirate Day Wednesday.
Staff dressed up as pirates and decorated the library. Visitors earned prizes for talking like a pirate to the library staff.
Others have taken to Facebook to celebrate.
The social giant itself is even getting in on the fun, allowing you to translate your facebook to pirate. Just go to settings and then language, select English (Pirate) in the drop-down menu.
Alas, The idea behind talk like a pirate day was created in 1995 as an inside joke between two friends. It gained international attention in the mid 2000′s when the friends wrote a letter to a humor columnist, who helped to promote the unofficial holiday.
The day is celebrated on September 19 each year.
