WICHITA FALLS, TX (RNN Texoma) - A Wichita Falls doctor has passed away after battling a rare form of cancer.
A GoFundMe page was sent up in November 2017 for Dr. Bart Spencer to help raise money for experimental treatments that were not covered by health insurance.
Dr. Spencer passed away on Tuesday night. The 44-year-old leaves behind his wife and two children. Dr. Spencer was most recently an OB/GYN for United Regional.
The hospital released the following statement on Wednesday after learning of his passing.
"As the work family of Dr. Bart Spencer, we are so very saddened about the loss of an exceptional man. He has touched the lives of so many women and families in our community. Our condolences go out to his family and the many people of this community who loved him like family. "
Dr. Spencer began practicing in Wichita Falls in 2009 and continued until his passing. An outpouring of condolences for the Spencer family were all over social media.
Several families shared stories of Dr. Spencer delivering their children. Funeral services have been set for 11 a.m. on Friday at First United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls.
The family will receive friends in the Prothro Auditorium following the service. Burial services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Victoria, Texas.
