WICHITA FALLS, TX (RNN Texoma) - A Wichita Falls man was arrested Monday evening after police said he stabbed a woman several times in Lucy Park.
John Gomora, 32, has been charged with Aggravated Assault. Just after 7 p.m., officers were called to the park for a report of a man chasing a woman with a knife.
Officers found the man, later identified as Gomora, riding a bike through the park. They stopped Gomora and got him on the ground.
Police said they asked Gomora if he had any weapons and he said no. He consented to a search and officers did not find any weapons on him.
Meanwhile, another officer was speaking with the victim. She told officers she was walking on the trails at the park when she heard someone coming up behind her. She turned around and said she saw Gomora swinging a knife at her.
She said Gomora cut her twice with the knife on the left side of her forehead and the right side of her nose. She fell onto her back and Gomora cut her twice more on her stomach.
She said she was then able to raise her left arm to try to defend herself, and she was cut on her arm as well. Police said she told them she was then able to push the suspect far enough away that she could get up and run.
She said Gomora began chasing after her until she called 911, and he ran away from her. The victim told police the knife had a grey handle and a small blade, and was possibly a box cutter.
Police said they could see visible injuries on the victim, but no medical attention was necessary. Officers were unable to find the knife in the area. Gomora was arrested and booked into jail.
At the time this story was published, Gomora remained behind bars on a $10,000 bond.
