WICHITA FALLS, TX (RNN Texoma) - The first day of early voting had a problem in Wichita Falls which was quickly caught by officials.
City Clerk Marie Balthrop tells News Channel 6 that the District 5 race was inadvertently left off the precinct 201 ballot. 29 voters from that district had already voted when the mistake was caught.
A temporary fix was put in place so no more voters will be affected. Once Wichita Co. Clerk, Lori Bohannon and Balthrop found out about the mistake they immediately switched Precinct 201 voters to Precinct 202 which has an identical ballot with the District 5 race on it.
That move has been approved by the Secretary of State’s office to continue through the voting process since all of the races on the 202 ballot are the same as 201.
Bohannon tells us that the Texas Secretary of State’s office says letting 29 people who early voted in Precinct 201 recast their ballots is not viable.
News Channel 6 first broke this story on our News Channel 6 First at 5 p.m. newscast on Monday after the ballot problem was discovered.
