WICHITA FALLS, TX (TNN) - “We really saw something up and coming here.”
Shauna LaRocque is just one of many female business owners in Wichita Falls, a number that has been growing.
On Tuesday, Texas was named the best state for female entrepreneurs by fits small business dot com and it’s been unsurprising to many.
“I think that we’re just kinda taking charge, we’ve got ideas, we’ve got great ideas, we’ve got support and I think that the women are really just starting to come out of their shell a little bit more,” Jennifer Blackwell said.
Blackwell is the president of the Wichita Falls Texoma Women’s Business council, a group that is only growing.
“I see our members growing because there are more and more female entrepreneurs popping up every day I think that small towns offer more opportunities for that,” she said.
Larocque says she received a lot of support from the community and without resources like the Small Business Development Center and the Chamber of Commerce, Crashworks wouldn’t be what it is today.
She thinks the success she’s seen can be achievable by anyone ready to own a business in Wichita Falls.
“I definitely don’t feel like I had any struggles because of my gender or any advantages," LaRocque said. "I feel like the community here is supportive of small businesses and no matter male or female, they are just very quick to help you and to push you to wherever you want to be.”
The Wichita Falls Texoma Women’s Business Council meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at noon at Jason’s Deli and the SBDC will have an information session on Monday at 1 p.m at Big Blue.
