IOWA PARK, TX (TNN) - The Park’s Department for the City of Iowa Park held an informational meeting this morning, discussing upgrades and the future of the three lakes within the city.
Gordon Lake, Buffalo Creek Reservoir and Middle Lake each face their own unique problems and equally unique solutions, but Parks Director Jason Griffin says fishing quality is the main concern with residents and visitors.
“Our goal is to improve the habitat and improve the fishing success out there, through a joint venture with the City of Iowa Park and with Texas Parks and Wildlife. Of course, a reservoir provides recreational activities like fishing, which is something we really encourage people to go out and do,” Griffin said.
Griffin adds the health of the water and the lakes are directly tied to the health of people in the area, since Iowa Park and other communities get their drinking water from the reservoirs.
Planned improvements include a boat ramp for Gordon Lake, a RV camping area for middle lake and shoreline and erosion control improvements for all three lakes.
Griffin says the improvements are a long term plan and will require funding from various sources.
The Parks Director hopes to get grants to help pay for some of those projects.
