WICHITA FALLS (TNN) - Dillard’s is getting ready for its annual “Fit For The Cure” event on March 5 with all proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
This year they’re doubling up and donating bras to Faith Refuge as well.
As of Saturday, Dillard’s has begun accepting donations. Every woman who gets fitted on March 5, bra manufacturer Warcol will donate $2 to Susan G. Komen. Wichita Falls store manager Don Finely wanted to kick it up a notch by reaching out to the local women’s shelter, Faith Refuge.
“We found out another company tied in with a local charity to help unfortunate ladies, and I thought ‘why can’t we do that?’ So I called Faith Refuge,” said Finley.
He and Lingerie Manager Chrysante Pryor said from creating the “Angel Tree” to giving shoppers specific sizes of the women, they’re helping by getting out in the community, Dillard’s employees are excited and ready for this first-time opportunity to make a difference.
“This is something different. I’ve been with this lingerie department for four years, and we have never done something like this. That is why I’m so excited to actually get it done. It’s a little overwhelming, but at the same time it is an exciting overwhelming just to help out the community. We went to a retirement home, and the looks on those ladies faces is just like ‘thank you so much,’” said Pryor.
Frances Manning, Director of Development for Faith Refuge, was a little surprised when she got the call, but said the ladies are always in need of undergarments. She believes this will further the work they are doing.
“Their self-esteem is really low. Their self-concept is really low. and one of the things our staff tries to do is build them back up. So when companies like Dillard’s come and want to give this to them, they feel like their story still matters,” said Manning.
Dillard’s employees will head over to Faith Refuge on Monday to get the women measured. On Tuesday, shoppers can grab names and sizes off the Angel Tree in the lingerie department.
