Police search for passenger who fled traffic stop

WICHITA FALLS, TX (TNN) - UPDATE: Wichita Falls police have identified the man who they arrested following a traffic stop Wednesday evening.

Billy Simpson, 30, was the driver of the vehicle and remained at the scene. He was arrested for Possession of Marijuana Less Than 2 Ounces in a Drug Free Zone, because he was near an elementary school.

Police are still looking into issuing an arrest warrant for the known subject who fled the scene.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Wichita Falls police are searching for a man who fled on foot following a traffic stop Wednesday evening.

Police stopped the car at around 7:15 p.m. on North 8th Street near Central Freeway.

They say they could smell marijuana coming from the car as soon as it passed them.

Police say a passenger in the car fled on foot as soon as it came to a stop. As many as nine marked patrol units swarmed the area attempting to locate the passenger, who eluded the officers on foot after a couple of blocks.

Officers add they know who the passenger is, but did not release his information, saying an arrest warrant is expected to be issued soon.

The driver, who stayed with the car, was arrested for carrying what police describe as a small amount of marijuana and driving without a license.
