SAINT JO, TX (TNN) - A Duncan, Oklahoma man is dead after an early Saturday morning ATV accident at the Rednecks with Paychecks Spring Break event.
The security firm in charge of safety said that an accident like this was essentially out of their control with it happening so late at night.
“It’s our time to try to get some rest and recovery, because there’s nothing to do, there’s nothing going on,” Kirk Grable, president of Lonestar Protection and Security, said.
For the four days they made sure that concerts and the different events ran smoothly and safely.
They weren’t there though, to make sure everyone kept themselves safe while driving or riding different vehicles.
“With it being after hours it’s almost a situation where it’s like getting in your personal vehicle, say at three in the morning, you never know what the roadways like," Grable said. "There’s nothing organized going on at that time frame.”
Grable told me that normal laws like wearing a helmet while riding or not drinking and driving are technically out of their control, until the person starts endangering themselves or someone else.
Then they could detain someone for the sheriff’s office to handle.
During the accident the main initial crew of guards were off duty, resting for the coming day, but Grable says some of those guards reacted to the accident and were able to help.
