Choosing a daycare center for your child is a difficult and important decision. Parents expect once their children are under someone else's supervision they will be well cared for. Turns out, that is not always the case.
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Web site lists all violations found during facility inspections. Several Texoma facilities have been cited with high or medium-high level deficiencies within the past two years.
Violations include caregivers sleeping during nap time, children being left unsupervised and caregivers using inappropriate disciplinary measures.
These reports are a useful tool for parents. But, they don't always tell the whole story.
The Overcoming Word Children's Center has 30 such violations in the past two years. But, they have worked hard to continually improve their center.
"We care," said facility director Alfonso Holmes, "and we want to make everything right for that child and make this as safe of an environment as possible."
The facility maintains a high ratio of caregivers to children. The center is licensed for over 100 children and only cares for 65.
Teachers are frequently trained through a partnership with Wichita Falls ISD. And they have made many major facilities improvements.
