Texoma City Experiencing Business Boom

Posted: Updated:

A Texoma community is experiencing a business boom.  Four new businesses have opened in Archer City in just the past few months, and three more are on the way.

"Every time we fill up a store front with a viable business it increases traffic," said Archer City Mayor, David Levy.

Archer City's empty buildings are filling up with new opportunities.

Kyle Mobley calls himself a cowboy and takes a liking to leather, that's why he opened up his very own custom made boots, and his work is drawing business from across Texoma.

"I've had plenty in Archer City, I had people from Gainesville, I've got an entire ranch in Waurika, OK, the 7s Dirt Ranch, everyone from the owner to the last cowboy," said Mobley.

Just a few doors down Kelli Coleman and business partner Leslie Knight launched a chic boutique that offers women a tanning bed, clothes, jewelry, a salon and even massages.

"I live outside Archer City and there is no where to tan, no where to shop, so I just wanted to do something so people had somewhere to go," said Coleman.

There's even a new antique shop in town, and a new restaurant.

"The former Sonic location has been renovated and is now Donut Time," said Levy.

Things aren't slowing down.  Officials say more businesses are making plans to open in Archer City in the near future.

A western establishment will be home to a steakhouse and two vacant buildings have been snatched up with plans to add even more jobs.

"It helps keep to not only keep our money in town but also provides more opportunity for our tourism base," said Levy.

"I'm excited.  The more people that come into town the better for me and for all the business," said Coleman.

So far business is good.

"I'm 15 months behind schedule so I'm not complaining," said Mobley.

Mayor Levy says the city is just one step closer to the day when the it will have no more vacant buildings in town.

To add to the city's revitalization, earlier this month Archer City applied for the State of Texas Main Street Program.

It helps historic Texas cities preserve and add to the economic growth by lending a helping hand.

Archer city expects to find out this fall if it is accepted into the program.
