Arizona Senator Wants Citizenship Denied For Kids

A senator from Arizona first sponsored the controversial immigration law and now wants to deny U.S. citizenship to children born in this country to undocumented parents.

Senator Russell Pearce proposes that the state of Arizona no longer issue birth certificates unless at least one parent can prove legal status.

He contends that the practice of granting citizenship to anyone born in the U.S. encourages illegal immigrants to come to this country to give birth and secure full rights for their children.

Legal scholars warn that it would be blatantly unconstitutional, since the 14th amendment guarantees citizenship to anyone born in the U.S.
