Wichita Co. Sheriff's Office Has A New Vehicle

The Wichita County Sheriff's Office has a new ride to help keep you safe.

On Thursday Sheriff David Duke introduced us to their new Light Armored Vehicle-300 or LAV.

The vehicle is coming from the U.S. army through homeland security.

It's a special response unit and will be used for extreme weather situations such as blizzards, floods, wild land fire evacuation, hostage rescues and tactical operations.

Sheriff David Duke says, "this is obviously something that will be able to be a benefit on our side to get people out of danger areas as well as help get the suspect to surrender at any point."

The LAV will be available for use in 11 counties and is the only armored personal carrier between Denton and Amarillo.
