Cemetery Named Historic Landmark

Members of the Texas Historical Society and the Clara Cemetery Community Association were on hand Saturday for the unveiling of an historic marker at the Clara Cemetery.

Clara was a small farming town west of Burkburnett that began to dwindle because of water shortages during the 1920's.

The cemetery was established in 1888 and is now an official historic landmark. Barbara Vanloh-Peterson, President of the Clara Cemetery Community Association, said it took two years of hard work and research to get the site dedicated.

It is one of a very few remnants left of the town of Clara.
