Judge Overturns CA's Same-Sex Marriage Ban

A federal judge in San Francisco has overturned California's same-sex marriage ban.

The landmark ruling came in the case of two same sex couples who claimed the voter approved ban also known as Proposition 8 violated their civil rights.

Judge Vaughn Walker said in his ruling the ban "fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license."

Supporters of the ban plan to appeal.
