Deer Fest Raises Money for Texoma School Kids

The second annual Deer Fest helped raise money for needy Texoma school kids Saturday. The event is the brain child of Spa Bella owner Dawn Thompson.

Thompson came up with the Adopt-a-Box program to help get some of life's basics to school children whose parents can't afford it. It provides basic personal hygiene items, like toothbrushes and soap, for students who teachers notice go without them. The program has grown to service 20 north Texas counties, which means Thompson needed to come up with a big fund raising event.

"You know, the community really got behind us," said Thompson, "and came out to support us, it's great."

The family-oriented hunting and wildlife expo gave Texomans the chance to come out and enjoy live music and contests and check out goods from over 100 vendors.

The event ran from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
