Former Stephen's County Deputy Accused of Sexual Assault

A former Stephens County Sheriff's Deputy is behind bars. He's accused of sexually assaulting three women.

Brandon Balthrop is charged with multiple crimes, including Sexual Battery, Indecent Exposure and First Degree Rape by Instrumentation.

The District Attorney said two of the victims were women Balthrop stopped for traffic violations and the third victim was a co-worker.

The Stephens County Sheriff's Office was first alerted to the allegations last month. The OSBI was immediately asked to investigate. District Attorney Brett Burns said, "It's difficult anytime you have to prosecute a member of law enforcement. It's something that's a necessity in our system. It's a difficult situation."

The Stephen's County Sheriff said Balthrop was fired when he refused to co-operate in the investigation and walked out of a polygraph test.

If convicted Balthrop could face life in prison.
