ESCAPE FROM ANNEX: Inmate Helps Escapees From Behind Bars

New developments continue to pour into the newsroom surrounding the escape from the
Wichita County Jail Annex.

The four escapees and five people accused of helping them escape were arrested last week.

But now it turns out there was another accomplice, helping from behind bars.

22-year-old Johnathan Ray Slagle is now the sixth individual charged with helping the escapees while on the run and deputies say more arrests are likely on the way.

It didn't take long for deputies to find out that Johnathan Ray Slagle played a role.

Wichita county deputies say his wife confessed to everything he told her.

"She was stopped by DPS Troopers in the area upon talking to her she gave us the information," said Wichita County Deputy Melvin Joyner.

His wife 20-year-old Stacey Ann Brackeen explained to troopers that Slagle called her from the jail a few days prior to the escapes.  It was then she says, he told her 'something big was about to happen and to wait for a phone call.'

"And then he made an additional call to get her to meet up with the individuals who had
escaped to give them a ride," said Joyner.

But before she could ever assist them she had already confessed to troopers about her involvement.  Brackeen was arrested and charged with helping in the escape, as for Slagle.

"He will be faced with additional charges," said Joyner.

Deputies say Slagle was housed in the same pod as the four escapees.  They don't believe he was trying to escape, but the investigation is far from over.

"We are continuing with this investigation it will not go away for many weeks."

Slagle was charged with facilitating escape which is a second degree felony.

If his name sounds familiar, it's because we've reported on many of his arrests.

Back in May he was arrested for evading arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

In July he was arrested for theft of a firearm.  That's when we learned he was charged with credit or debit card abuse for an incident back in June.

In Archer County he is also facing charges in connection to a vehicle chase in Holliday.
