Holliday Rolls Over Windthorst in Game of the Week

All week Windthorst Head Coach Bill Green stressed the importance of not turning the ball over.

Friday night's game showed why.

The Trojans turned it over three times in the first half, and all three led to Holliday touchdowns in the Eagles' 35-7 win in our Zero Week Dr. Pepper Game of the Week.

Holliday's Tyler Cole got the scoring started with a 40-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter.

Windthorst QB Joe Hoegger did score a late touchdown for Windthorst's only points, but his three-first half interceptions led to a 6-yard Tyler Cole rushing touchdown, a 1-yard run from Jacob Hardin, and a 35-yard keeper TD from Tyler's QB brother Jacob, as Holliday built a 28-0 lead.

Holliday finished with 309 yards on the ground, compared to just 6 in the air.

Windthorst was a little more balanced, gaining 211 on the ground and 83 through the air, but could only finish the one drive when they were already down 35-0.

Tyler Berardi was Windthorst's leading rusher and receiver, with 9 carries for 63 yards and 4 catches for 51 yards.

For Holliday, Sam Shirley had 2 carries for 94 yards, though almost all of that came on one 92-yard run. Tyler Cole had 11 carries for 86 yards.

Windthorst also hurt itself with penalties, picking up 100 yards on 10 flags.

Holliday (1-0) travels to Breckenridge next week, while Windthorst (0-1) hosts the Wichita Falls High School JV.

Next week our Dr Pepper Game of the Week will feature Scott Ponder's Iowa Park Hawks, as he makes his home debut against Pilot Point.
