Multiple Agencies Battle Wildfire in Clay County

A massive wildfire burned hundreds of acres in Clay County Saturday. Units from eight fire departments responded to the blaze along FM 2847 around 1 p.m.

Clay County Emergency Management Coordinator Kent Neville says around 400 or 500 acres may have burned.

It took 60 to 70 firefighters over five hours to finally extinguish the flames. One firefighter was treated on-site for a heat related incident but no injuries are reported at this time.

Neville says the blaze was sparked by hunters setting up a deer camp for the upcoming season.
