Lawton Man Headed To Prison For 2nd Degree Murder

A Lawton man is going to prison for 2nd Degree Murder. Vernon Butler IV was sentenced yesterday in a Comanche County District Court.

He's accused of shooting and killing 23 year old Robert Mountain in May of last year. Prosecutors say Butler accidentally shot Mountain while hitting him in the head with a handgun.

Butler said he fired in self-defense after Mountain grabbed a gun and tried to rob him during an attempted drug deal. Butler is ordered to spend 13 years behind bars.
