Tougher regulations over the nation's meat supply are in the thoughts of the federal government.

This comes after the first outbreak linked to a rare strain of E. Coli.

Three people on the east coast have become ill this summer after eating beef traced back to a Cargill plant.

There is interest in expanding federal oversight of meat beyond the most prevalent strain of E. Coli.

Meat plants must already test for that strain.
