There is a new push in Texoma to honor and remember troops who are serving overseas. Care Partners has a new campaign to show support to our soldiers and it needs the community to step up and get involved.
This is Care Partner's first time doing this and they say they want the men and women who are serving in the Middle East to know Texoma hasn't forgotten about them.
"Wichita Falls and Lawton area have such a huge thriving military population everybody here realizes the sacrifice these service men and women make and we certainly want to do whatever we can to help them," said Jeff McAllister, Administrator, Care Partners
When the troops open up these boxes it wont be to a new pair of tennis shoes or heels, it'll be to a couple of items that might remind them of home- popcorn, DVDs and magazines to name a few. These boxes can also be given a personal touch.
"Some people can make their own boxes we certainly won't compromise their box, some people who can't do their own boxes can just bring us the supplies that we'll place in the boxes so it just depends on their situation," said McAllister.
McAllister did say this has been done in other areas of the US, some shipping as many as 20- 25 boxes. However, Care Partners has set the bar at a different amount, 100 boxes, but they know it can't be done alone.
"Again we're hoping that the whole community comes out to support us- businesses, churches, everyone. The military does stuff for us each and every day and we want to get a huge amount of help from the local population." said McAllister.
Since these boxes will be shipped to a Muslim country, Care Partners asks none of the items contain any form of alcohol in them.
The ship date is set for October 31st, anyone who would like to donate can go to their local office at Galaxy Center on Old Jacksboro HWY and Hatton Rd.
