Several States Want To Jam Cell Phones Near Prisons

Several states are asking congress to change a law regulating airwaves in federal agencies.

Authorities in Texas, Louisiana, D.C. and few other places want the ability to jam cell phone signals in state and local prisons.

This comes after a corrections department officer in South Carolina was shot six times in his home by a man authorities believe was ordered by an inmate using a smuggled cell phone.

Mobile phone industry officials say this could interfere with legitimate cell use nearby and that better technology is available.
