An historical Texas woman and a native Wichita Falls resident is being remembered in a special way.
Monday morning Wichita County Commissioners approved an official Texas Historical Marker honoring the late Charlye Ola Farris.
The 80-year-old passed away in March of cancer.
Farris became the first black woman in Texas to earn a license to practice law.
She was also the first woman to practice law in Wichita County.
Farris also became the first black woman in the south to serve in a judicial position.
The History and Preservation Committee is placing the marker in Wichita Falls.
The specific location is still being determined.
