Friday Texoma remembered a community hero killed in the line of duty.
DPS Corporal David Slaton, 56, died Monday in a two-car accident in Montague County.
Loved ones, law enforcement and Texoma residents filled the streets and the First Baptist Church in Bowie Friday morning to honor Cpl. Slaton.
Family and friends stood before a great crowd, sharing their most treasured memories about the life-long public servant.
Tears and laughter filled the church in memory of Corporal Slaton.
The most emotional memories came from Cpl. Slaton's son and his best friend who was also his DPS partner of 13 years.
Cpl. Slaton is survived by his wife, Lynette, and son, Bo. Among other things, he coached baseball and basketball little league teams and loved to watch his son Bo play various sports.
The crash that killed Cpl. Slaton is under investigation. Troopers say Slaton struck a cow in the roadway. The impact forced his patrol unit into oncoming traffic where it was struck head-on by an 18-wheeler. Troopers are determining if charges can be filed against the livestock's owner.
