TX National Guard Soldiers Headed For Iraq

700 soldiers from the Texas Army National Guard are headed for Iraq.

Governor Rick Perry was there too wish the 36th infantry farewell.

This will be the first time that divisions headquarters has deployed to a combat zone since World War II.

They will be gone for one year for "Operation New Dawn" to help with troop withdrawal.

Since the beginning of the operations in the Middle East, the 36th infantry division has deployed more than 10,000 men and women to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Based on their success the Department of Defense has asked them to oversee the troop drawdown in southern Iraq.
