Bubba Mathis is Papa John's Player of the Week

We had three great candidates for our Papa John's Player of the Week Award this week, and an outpouring of support for all of our candidates.

Roderick Woodard of Quanah scored touchdowns rushing, receiving and returning against Haskell.

Tyson Whatley of Bowie averaged over 35 yards per catch and scored two touchdowns for the Jackrabbits against Whitesboro.

But the winner of our award broke two different School Records Friday night.

Bubba Mathis of the Wichita Falls High School Coyotes caught 16 passes for 219 yards, accounting for more than half of his team's completions and yardage through the air.

Monday night, Mathis stopped by our studio and Newschannel 6 Sports' Charlie Bartlett presented him with his award.

To hear what Mathis had to say, click on the video link!

And to nominate someone from your team as our Papa John's Player of the Week next week, email us Friday night or Saturday with your nomination and why they should win.

Starting with Week 5, we'll announce the nominees on Saturday night, make our decision by Monday morning, and announce our winner on Monday night!
