The Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce and Industry along with Region IX was honored with a very prestigious award on Tuesday. They received the Excellence in Economic Development Award for their Million Dollar Conversation from the International Economic Development Council.
The Million Dollar Conversation is a marketing program that the Chamber and Region IX teamed up on. It encourages community members from educators to parents to business leaders to speak to students and help them understand that their decisions now with education could impact millions of dollars in the future. Those millions would effect the students own prosperity and their effect on the local economy.
IEDC Chairman William Best said, "Our awards honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in communities. The Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce and Industry & Region IX are showing that they are at the forefront of the economic development profession and are using innovative and effective practices that can be replicated in other communities."
The award was presented in Columbus, Ohio at the IEDC Annual Conference and was listed in the category of Partnerships with Educational Institutions for communities with populations of 25.000 to 200,000.
The IEDC Excellence in Economic Awards Program annually recognizes the world's best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials, and the year's most influential leaders. The program honors organizations and individuals in 28 categories for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban, and rural communities.
