Big Plays Cost Rider in Loss at #4 Denton Ryan

First place in District 4-4A was on the line Thursday night in Denton as the Rider Raiders faced #4 Denton Ryan.

Rider struggled limiting the big play in the first half, allowing a 26-yard touchdown pass from Nash Knight to Trey Cook for the game's first points, a 17-yard strike from Knight to Trey Mohair, and a 96-yard scoring run from Ryan's Kaylon Alexander.

That left them trailing 21-0 at halftime en route to a 35-14 defeat, dropping them to 2-1 in District 4-4A, 3-4 overall.

Rider's rushing attack, and Deron Royster in particular, came alive in the second half. Last week's Papa John's Player of the Week Nominee picked up 139 of his 162 yards after intermission and scored both Rider touchdowns.

Overall Rider rushed for 279 yards, the most by any Ryan (6-0, 3-0) opponent this season, but it wasn't enough.

Rider has next week off, before hosting The Colony on October 22.
