A boil water notice is still in effect for people living in hinds after E. coli was found in the water system. Hinds is a rural area just north of Vernon.
The Red River Authority confirmed to Newschannel6 that fecal material was present in the water and they are actively attempting to correct the problem.
However, there still is some contention as to where the harmful bacterial really is.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality says five water systems were sold the contaminated water, potentially affecting rural areas north of Vernon and as far east as the Wilbarger County line.
Yet, the Red River Authority still believes the E. coli is just in the Hinds water system.
Now, the Red River Authority is waiting to hear back from the T.C.E.Q. as to how to correct the dirty water.
