Bowie ISD Names New Superintendent

Bowie Independent School District has named a new superintendent.

Thursday trustees named Interim Assistant Superintendent Steven Monkres as the new full time superintendent.

He was selected as the lone finalist, which means he will begin his duties 21 days from his selection.

Lisa Gonzales will still hold the current position of interim superintendent until Monkres takes over then she will begin serving her normal duties as assistant superintendent.

On Monday afternoon trustees spent four hours interviewing two candidates.

The board met again Thursday evening for discussions.

Monkres will replace Greg Evans who abruptly resigned in mid-September.
