Graham Teens Facing Drug Charges

Police in Graham are investigating several incidents of teenagers overdosing on prescription drugs.

A nurse at Graham Regional Hospital first alerted police to the problem Nov. 17. A 16 year old Graham High School student was admitted for overdosing on an unknown prescription drug. He was taken to Cook Children's Hospital in Ft. Worth.

When a second teen became incoherent at the high school cafeteria the next say, police began connecting the dots.

The pills were traced to two other teens in Graham. Cody Lee Phipps, 17, and a 16 year-old female student are facing charges of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in the incidents. Police say the two also sold pills to a number of other students at the school. Though the exact number is not yet available, and police expect it could go higher.

Graham Police Chief Tony Widner said this case stems well beyond the high school. Widner said the investigation has tied the pills to a local church and several homes as well as the school.

The investigation remains open, and Widner said more arrests are possible.
