City Commissioners will gather in a special-called meeting of the Burkburnett Board of Commissioners tonight. The executive-session discussion will concern issues related to the Burk Police Department.
The Burk PD has faced a PR crisis in recent months. This, stemming from a lawsuit and charges filed against two former officers.
Several commissioners said they see tonight as a chance to dig for answers and, if necessary, take corrective action. Mayor Carl Law said tonight's meeting should be about moving forward, not dwelling in the past.
"We will ask him,Interim City Manager Ives," said Law, "to tell us, with the chief, what the plans are to improve the image of the department, to take care of any loose ends related to any of those issues..."
Mayor Law said rumors have been swirling around town about Police Chief Mike Tracey, and he doesn't want those to ruin Tracey's reputation. Both Law and Ives said Chief Tracey has made many positive changes since taking over the department, including replacing many of the officers.
The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. No action can be taken while in executive session. Any formal move will be made publicly.
