Local Hoops Roundup: December 2

The MSU Mustang Women rallied from a 13-point first-half deficit to beat East Central 80-76 Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Savannah Carver led the way with 22 points and 5 assists. Jazman Patterson had a double-digit rebound night with 11.

In the men's game, Chris Hagan led a balanced effort with 17 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds as the Mustangs thrashed the previously 5-1 Tigers 60-36.

Charlie Logan scored 6 of his 8 points in the game's first few minutes as the Mustangs held ECU to just 30% shooting from the floor, and 8% (1/12) from the 3-point line. The Tigers had just 4 assists on 14 made field goals while turning the ball over 21 times.

Next up the Mustangs play a pair of road double-headers, first Saturday at Southwestern Oklahoma (Women at 2, Men at 4) and then Monday up in Lawton against Cameron (Women at 6, Men at 8).

In High School action, the Rider Lady Raiders played in the Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, drawing the 2nd-ranked team in Class 5A, and the 8th-ranked team in the nation, Irving MacArthur. The Lady Raiders fought hard but fell 64-38.

In the Tornado Alley tournament in Archer City, here were some girls' scores:

Also, in the Forestburg Tournament, Wichita Christian ran into the same Prairie Valley team that beat them 69-35 at home Tuesday. This time it was much closer, but the Lady Stars fell 38-36 when a last-second shot just missed. Maddy McGee had 18 points, while Chelsea Studdard added 11 for the Lady Stars.
