The Munday Moguls and the Windthorst Trojans have been in a district together for eight years. Friday night, for the second time, they met in the playoffs...
It was a late 7:30 start down in Breckenridge as the 11-2 Moguls took the field ready for a rematch with the 11-1 Trojans, winners of 11 straight since a Zero Week loss to Holliday.
Early in the first quarter, Trojans quarterback Joe Hoegger found Chase Schreiber wide open over the middle after a play-fake to Ty Duncan, and Schreiber found the end zone for the touchdown.
Just over two minutes in to the game, Windthorst led 7-0.
Munday answered with a drive of their own to pull within 7-6 but missed the extra point, and the Trojans really didn't look back.
They never trailed en route to a 55-19 win over the Moguls.
They'll face Springlake-Earth in the state semi-finals after the Wolverines beat Farwell 34-0 in another district rematch out in Lubbock.
There is no place or time set just yet.
There are three more games going on Saturday afternoon and night.
First the Rider Raiders head down to Denton for a quarterfinals re-match with #2 Denton Ryan, who beat them by three touchdowns in the regular season. That game kicks off at 2 PM at C.H. Collins Athletic Complex in Denton.
At the same time out in Abilene, the Holliday Eagles will be playing for a spot in the 2A Division II Final Four when they face the Idalou Wildcats at Wylie HS. Both teams are 9-3 so far this year, and both will look to rely on a strong ground game and stout defense.
Then the nightcap Saturday, a 7 PM kickoff in Hico, the #2 Throckmorton Greyhounds face Aquilla for a berth in the State Title Game. If they win they'll face the winner of the game between #1 Garden City and #4 Follett; that game will be in Seymour Saturday night at 8 PM.
Also Saturday, the MSU Cross-Country team will compete in the NCAA Division II National Championship in Louisville, Kentucky, and MSU Football competes in the Kanza Bowl in Topeka, Kansas!
The Rider Raider basketball team welcomed Class 5A Midland to Rider Fieldhouse Friday night and took a 45-36 win behind 22 points from Christian Sager.
The Wichita Falls High School girls went to 5A Justin Northwest and got a 54-45 win behind 17 points from Caroline Taylor and 12 from Danielle Randolph. The Lady Coyotes (8-1) will host Graham on Monday night.
The Wichita Christian Lady Stars got a 36-28 win at Denton Selwyn.
