KIDNAPPING ESCAPE: SWAT Situation Ends In Wichita Falls

A man is in custody after Police say he held a man against his will and demanded ransom money for his release. Adam Lamb, 24, Wichita Falls has been charged with aggravated kidnapping. Police say they were called to the 2000 block of Polk around 7:30 Tuesday morning. A man was seen running and screaming for help.

Police say the man, Cody Machen, 21, told them he had been walking in the 2800 block of Featherstone Monday night when he ask some people for a ride. Police say he said they agreed to the ride, but once in a vehicle said they needed to stop at a home in the 2000 block of Polk. Machen says he went inside the home and was assaulted by the suspects.

According to Police Machen says the suspects were holding him against his will, demanding ransom money for his release. Machen was unable to come up with the cash and they held him through the night, according to Investigators.

Police say early this morning, Machen says he was able to get free of his captors by stabbing one of them.

Officers met Lamb at United Regional where he was being treated for a non-life-threatening stab wound. Once he was released from medical care, he was taken to the Police station for questioning. Officers say they determined there was enough evidence and he was charged with one count of aggravated kidnapping.

During the course of the investigation, Police came to believe there may be other suspects at an address in the 2800 block of Featherstone. Officers went to the address, but go no response at the door. The SWAT team was called in while Patrol Officers set up a perimeter.

Several homes and a hair salon was evacuated. "SWAT guys surrounded the building and told us we had to evacuate because it wasn't safe," said Salon FX Owner Jennifer Fowler. Fowler was with a client when situation unfolded. "My client still had foil in her hair, we were doing a highlight and she's still processing. We can't wash her out so we just have to wait," said Fowler. The client was able to rush home and wash the chemicals out of her hair.

The neighborhood remained on lock down, as did Ben Milam Elementary. Several neighbors were evacuated from their home.

Around 11AM, the homeowner came out of his house. SWAT Team members cleared the home and determined there were no suspects inside. The homeowner was detained for questioning and a van parked out front was impounded to be combed for evidence.

Coming up tonight on Newschannel 6 First at Five, hear more from the salon owner and the neighbors who were evacuated from the area.
