Wildcats and HS Hoops: December 29

The Wichita Falls Wildcats traveled up to Amarillo Wednesday night for the first of two straight tough road tests.

They flunked the first one, taking a 7-3 loss against the Bulls, who moved within a point of first place Texas in the NAHL South.

Jason McAloon, Daniel Hildebrandt and Mac Olson scored for the Wildcats, who fell to 16-13-3 with the loss. The team allowed 4 power-play goals Wednesday night.

They'll face Texas Friday night in Frisco.

Graham Upsets Burkburnett in Lady Bulldog Classic

In the Union Square Lady Bulldog Christmas Classic, the host Lady Bulldogs faced the Graham Lady Blues in the tournament championship game Wednesday afternoon.

Sadie Dickinson had 21 points to lead the Lady Blues to a 53-46 upset win, then was named the Tournament MVP.

It was a back-and-forth game from the start, with the teams trading leads most of the first half, but the Lady Blues pulled away in the third quarter. They started the period on a 10-0 run and won the quarter 14-5.

Taylor Posey scored 14 points for Graham, while Bonni Peeks scored 12 and was named All-Tournament.

Taylor Butler and Macy Cooke (All-Tournament) led Burkburnett with 12 points each. All of Butler's points came from the three-point line.

In the third-place game earlier in the day, Rider fell to Denton 52-43. Samantha Hislop scored 12 points and was named to the All-Tournament team.

Denton's Jamecia Brown led the way with a game-high 13 points, while Jasmine Taylor had 6. She averaged 12.3 points per game in the tournament and also made the All-Tournament team.

In the Consolation games earlier, Seymour defeated Hereford 57-56 in overtime and Bowie beat Archer City 51-35.

Burkburnett Boys Drop Tournament Finale

The #3 Dunkin' Dogs faced 6th-ranked Argyle in the championship of the Fort Worth Whataburger tournament Wednesday night in Haltom City.

The Eagles knocked off #2 Cleveland Tuesday night, and did the same to the 'Dogs, beating Burkburnett 63-54.

Derrell Gibbs led Burkburnett with 14 points, while Jerard Graham scored 12 in just the second loss of the season for Burkburnett.

Next up for the Bulldogs will be their second game of the year against a team from Australia, as they face Newington College January 5th at home.

WFHS Girls Win Bryon Johnson Consolation Bracket

The Wichita Falls High School Lady Coyotes overcame a ten-point deficit at the start of the 4th quarter to beat Midland Lee 42-39 Wednesday night in the Consolation championship of the Bryon Johnson Tournament in Midland.

Caroline Taylor scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and was named to the All-Tournament team. Khiani Clark scored 9 Wednesday night and averaged over 15 rebounds per game in the three-game tournament.

The Lady Coyotes return to District 4-4A play January 4th at home against Little Elm.
