Keeping Teens Safe From Abduction

Newschannel 6 is listening to your concerns and working to get you answers. One of our facebook friends sent us a message wanting to know how parents should talk to teenagers about the threat of abduction. There are several missing persons cases that caught her attention.

It has been almost 7 months since Krishonda Townsend went missing. She was last seen on the 4th of July. Since then her mother has been waiting for any news. On December 27th, a 13 year old went missing in Colorado City, TX. Crews have been searching for Hayley Dunn ever since. She is listed as an endangered missing person with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The thought of losing a child is unbearable to some mothers in Texoma. "I wouldn't even know where to begin with the mother of a child that had been abducted. If my son disappears for 3 seconds and my heart stops for all 3 seconds so I can't imagine if he was gone for 30," said Remy LeGuin.

There are things you can do to help keep your kids and teens safe. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has an FAQ page with helpful tips on talking to teens.

Krishonda Townsend's mother says that forensic reports have come in for her car – which was found several days after she disappeared. She says investigators told her no evidence was found. However, the search continues for answers. After a national cable show told Shonda's story, a search and investigation group has stepped-up to help find answers. Details are still being worked out, but Townsend's mom says they could be in Texoma soon. We will keep you updated.
