Airlines Expected To See Fourth Quarter Profits

Most major airlines will report a profit for the fourth quarter of 2010.

It'll be a major turnaround in the year for the industry.

Analyst predict that the five biggest airlines earned nearly $3.5 billion, excluding special gains and charges.

Delta will be the first to report their earnings Tuesday, followed by Southwest and United Continental who should report a profit.

American Airlines will likely be in the red.

Airlines have limited the number of seats for sale, allowing them to push up fares. They have also benefited from an increase in demand especially from business travelers.
