High Speed Chase Crosses Red River

A high-speed car chase with a stolen vehicle landed a man behind bars.

Officials said it started North of the Red River in Cotton County when Oklahoma Trooper Forrest White pulled over Jack Allen Gant, 28, for a routine traffic stop. Trooper White said Gant refused to put the truck in park while they talked. That's when White said Gant suddenly drove off, speeding down the highway toward Burkburnett.

Burkburnett Police Detective Lahoma Vaughan said the chase ended in the 400 block of Elm Street. She said Gant bailed from the truck and tried to hide in a vacant house. Police said the truck Gant was driving had been reported stolen out of Wichita Falls.

Burkburnett police were able to arrest Gant. Gant has been charged with Burglary of a Building. Sgt. Vaughan said Gant will likely faces more charges from Oklahoma Highway Patrol connected to the chase.

Newschannel 6 learned of a past incident connected to Gant. Wichita Falls police said Gant fled from them at Sutherland's back in July of 2010.

Gant also has a previous conviction for drug possession based out of Oklahoma.
