Man Facing Charges For Stealing Copper Pipes

A 40-year-old man is accused of stealing copper pipe from a city owned home.

On Tuesday, January 18, Wichita Falls police officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Barton for a suspicious vehicle parked at a residence. A neighbor pointed officers to the front of the residence where they observed a male known to officers as Perfecto Sanchez.

Officers said Sanchez had dirt on his clothes and appeared surprised to see the officers. The officers said Sanchez told them he had been under the house inspecting it because it was going up for auction.
When the officers went into the house they found a hole in the kitchen floor. It was 18 inches in diameter. There were also tools just below the opening and copper pipe that had been cut and bent for easy removal. Officers then searched Sanchez's vehicle and said they found more tools and more copper pipe.

The City of Wichita Falls owns the house. When officers contacted the city a representative told them Sanchez was not authorized to be at that address. They also said he was not authorized to remove copper pipe from the home.

Sanchez was arrested for burglary of a habitation.
