Grass Fire Destroys Baylor County Home

A home in Baylor county was destroyed by fire Saturday afternoon. Firefighters from five departments battled the grass fire for three hours.

The blaze sparked around noon along Hwy. 114 three miles east of Seymour. The owner of the house said he was burning trash in a barrel earlier Saturday morning. He said he used water to douse the flames, then left. The homeowner believes that fire rekindled starting the blaze.

Units from Archer City, Megargel, Olney and Seymour helped put out the flames. Fire officials estimated around 400 acres also burned in the fire.

No one was hurt in the blaze but the homeowner said he doesn't have insurance. Family members said they are already coming up with ways to help raise money to start rebuilding.
