SWAT Team Rescues 5 Hostages from Falls Neighborhood

The Wichita Falls Police Department's SWAT Team has rescued 5 hostages from a home following a knife attack.

32 year old Elmer Hayes is charged with Burglary of a Habitation and Violation of a Protective Order.

At 2:22 a.m., Saturday, officers from the WFPD Patrol Section were dispatched to 1102 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd on a disturbance. They were met at the scene by one of the victims, 38 year old Daniel Bagby.

Bagby told Officers that he was asleep in the house when Elmer Hayes kicked in a door and attacked him with a knife. Bagby said he was punched in the face, but was able to escape the house. Bagby said that Elmer Hayes was still inside and threatening his ex-wife with the knife. Bagby said there were four children in the home as well.

The Patrol Section maintained a perimeter on the home as SWAT and Crisis Negotiators responded to the scene. At approximately 5:30 a.m., SWAT operators entered the home and Elmer Hayes was taken into custody. He has been transported to the Wichita County Jail. Officers found that a protective order had prohibited him from any contact with his ex-wife.

Police say his ex wife was assaulted and was taken to United Regional Hospital by private vehicle for facial injuries. Bagby was transported to the hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. The children, ranging in age from 3 years to 12 years old, were not injured.
