Budget Committee Looks At State Education

With major spending cuts coming to agencies all across Texas, lawmakers are turning to education.

The Senate Budget Committee is combing over the proposed state budget, and Monday the education portion is on the agenda.

First is the School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the School for the Deaf. Lawmakers are considering a state budget for the next two years that will be about $15-billion less in state revenue. Also on the agenda, the Texas Education Agency.

During the first week of hearings, the panel heard from dozens of Texans and advocates who were angry about the proposed cuts to state agencies.
