Texas Considers Asking New Rules For Abortion

State legislation has been approved, adding new rules for doctors before going through with an abortion.

The Texas Senate Affairs Committee approved the bill requiring doctors to perform a sonogram on women seeking an abortion.

Doctors would also have to describe the fetus, whether it has arms, legs or other organs before completing the procedure.

Supporters of Senate Bill 16 argue women need this information. Opponents say the law would put the government between doctors and patients.

The only exceptions are for abortions that are the result of emergencies, sexual assault or incest.
