Giffords' Relearning to Speak With Song

A newspaper is reporting the injured congresswoman in the Tucson shooting is relearning how to speak with songs.

The New York Times reports Rep. Gabrielle Gifford's is mouthing the words to lyrics such as "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."

She also briefly talked to her brother-in-law by phone while he orbited the International Space Station.

The paper also reports she has been receiving bedside briefings from aides on the uprising in Egypt and Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) decision not to run for re-election.

Giffords' Chief of Staff says she definitely understands what is being said and has been providing short, verbal responses.

The congresswoman was shot in the head Jan. 8 while meeting with constituents outside a Tucson grocery store. She began rehabilitation at a Houston hospital late last month.
