Lady Bulldogs Upset #21 Bridgeport for Playoff Win

The Burkburnett Lady Bulldog basketball team had gone ten years since their last playoff victory.

And they certainly didn't get much of a reward for a perfect District 6-3A record.

After a Bi-District bye, they drew #21 Bridgeport in the Area round, and even if they won that game, they would then see the #1 team in the state, Kennedale in the Regional Quarterfinals.

But the Lady Bulldogs kept their heads down and turned a close game into a blowout in the fourth quarter, beating the Sissies 58-42 in Bowie.

It was a five-point game through three quarters before the Lady Bulldogs pulled away with a 19-8 fourth period.

After the game, Head Coach Alex Koulovatos credited his teams toughness and conditioning for the big finish.

"All year long, we've been just telling our kids, 'It's all fourth quarter,'" said Coach Koulovatos.

"'And if we could just keep moving the ball, keep pushing it and pushing it, keep pressing, we'll get them in the fourth quarter. They'll get tired, they'll make bad passes, and we'll be there.' And that's what happened. We kept our confidence, we kept our cool, and we knew it was coming, we just waited for it and got it."

Petrolia Advances, Quanah Eliminated

The Petrolia Lady Pirates moved on to the Regional Quarterfinals with a 52-42 win over Santo at Jacksboro High School in the Area round. They'll face Goldthwaite, who eliminated Windthorst in a late game Friday.

The Quanah Lady Indians fell to Panhandle, 58-43 at Claude High School.

After watching the Dallas Cowboys run around in just helmets the first two days, it was finally time to hear the pads clash together.  Head Coach Jason Garrett stuck to his normal game plan of having the offense and defense practice separately to start camp, but today the pads went on and the competition ramped up. "This is when we can come out and actually show what we've worked on and show that we've put in work. It starts when guys walk in the locker room...
