HS Baseball Roundup: February 24

Wichita Falls High School split a pair of games in the Coyote/Hawk Rotational Thursday.

First the Coyotes fell 4-0 to Dumas. Griffin Russell started and took the loss for Old High.

Immediately following the loss, though, WFHS came back out and beat Levelland 5-1 to even their record for the event and the season at 1-1.

The Coyotes will play Friday against Vernon at 1 PM and Perryton at 6 PM, then they'll face Iowa Park Saturday at 12:30 in the tournament finale. All of those games will be at Hoskins Field.

In the tournament's opening game, Vernon beat Holliday 7-6. Dylan Hasselhoff hit a towering two-run home run for the Lions, over the trees in right-center field.

Burkburnett Splits Day 1 in Mineral Wells

Burkburnett played in the Fort Worth Tournament of Champions Thursday, though their games were actually in Mineral Wells.

In their first game, the Bulldogs avenged their Monday-night loss to the Rams with a 14-8 win. Canon Cornelius hit three home runs in the game for the 'Dogs.

In their second game, though, Burkburnett fell 18-4 to Kennedale despite another homer from Cornelius, who drove in a total of eight runs on the day.

Burkburnett's record for the year stands at 1-2 entering Friday's action.

Hirschi Splits in Jacksboro

The Hirschi Huskies played a pair of games Thursday in the Jacksboro Tournament, winning one.

After a 13-4 loss to the Petrolia Pirates, the Huskies rebounded to beat Breckenridge 15-0, improving their record for the year to 2-1.
