Guns on Campus a Concern for Official

The University of Texas System Chancellor said proposed legislation to allow the carrying of guns on college campuses has him worried about school safety.

Francisco Cigarroa expressed his concerns to Governor Rick Perry and state legislators in a letter. Lawmakers are considering a bill to allow people with a concealed handgun licenses to bring guns into campus buildings. The bill covers both students and staff.

Supporters of the bill said it is a critical self defense measure that could help avoid shootings. Those opposed to the idea said it could lead to an increase in campus violence.
